It's a good opportunity for me to join the ILEP (International Leader in education program) conducted by IREX in America. I have obtained tons of experience specifically about the development of advanced technology facilitating the education here.
I have my internship in Streetsboro high cschool in the suburban area of Ohio. this high school is one of the five buildings in the district.Having a tour around the school building at very first time I stepped my feet in this school, I find out that the school is well equipped with kinds of facilities supporting the teaching learning process. For example when I visit a math classroom, the class is equipped with the smartboard, computer and the projector and internet access, the teacher has a very good skill in using the smart board. The english class is facilitated with computers, projector, internet access, TV and dvd player and tape recorder, in general the classrooms are equipped with such things. I'm impressed with the radio and tv stations here. The talented students develop themselves to be broadcasters. when I visit the library, I also feel very imprssed because the library is always fillled with the visitors, it is not only for storing books and the stuff it is also used for students' activities concerning the project they have to complete.The teachers from different subjects schedule their time to study in the library for the students' project.
During my internship, I used the opportunity to conduct my research about reading engagement. Ms. Judd, the English teacher I shadow is a very professional teacher, she is an expert in Literature. I learn a lot from her. In her class she teaches literature by various writers, such as, William Shakespeare, Dashiell Hammet etc and she performs her teaching with kinds of thechniques to create effective constructivist teaching learning process.
I also feel very impressed to see Ms. Baverly with her patience teaching her students in Special education class. They are so smart when the teacher asks her students to do some activities. Her students can also use computer. The following is an activity when the teacher asks her student to take the sign from the board and he gives them to her.
I also have my opportunity to teach the students in reading activity such as : shooting an Elephant, the women's movement, Kartini and Cairo Rooftop and also I introduce the students about indonesian literature history and taught a poem "Aku" by Chairil Anwar transcribed in english. I invite the students to read the poem "Aku" by Chairil Anwar transcribed in English.
By the end of my internship I also have the oppotunity to see the students present their power point project about the women's movement from different countries such as : India, Egypt, America, Indonesia, Phillippine. I really appreciate them for their project.
